About the Church
City Music Society concerts take place in the beautiful surroundings of St Bartholomew the Great in Smithfield. We are very grateful to the Rector and Churchwardens for making available the church of St Bartholomew the Great for our concert series.
Founded in 1123 by Rahere, a courtier of Henry I, St Bartholomew the Great is the oldest parish church in the City of London. The Norman interior, with its soaring arches and atmospheric acoustic, makes it one of the most remarkable concert venues in the capital.
The church is situated in West Smithfield between St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Smithfield Market. It is best approached via West Smithfield through the Tudor gateway but access is also possible via the gate in Cloth Fair. The nearest stations are Barbican, Farringdon, St Paul’s and Holborn Viaduct. View the church location on Google Maps.

Practical Information
- Admission to all lunchtime concerts is Free.
- A collection is made at the end of each Young Artists concert to help finance future City Music Society Young Artists concerts.
- Seats cannot be guaranteed after 1.00pm.
- Limited standing is permitted at the discretion of the Society.
- Latecomers are only admitted during a suitable pause in the programme.
- All programmes are subject to change at short notice.
- The City Music Society reserves the right to refuse admission.
- Please note that City Music Society concerts are not suitable for children under the age of 8 and the Society reserves the right to refuse entry to children under that age.
